Managing Change 3 Ways To Change Your Job Search For The Better
Managing Change 3 Ways To Change Your Job Search For The Better 3 Here's what it takes to manage the changes related to your job search, from someone who knows change management. This a guest post by R.C. If youâd also like to guest post here on JobMob, follow these guest post guidelines. Change happens Change management was a regular part of my work as a production supervisor. There was always something that involved change â" cross-training team members, revising the day's plan because an unexpected rush job came in, pitching in to help another area that experienced a mechanical breakdown, modifying a production process because of inefficiencies that were found, making way for a new machine to be integrated into the system.eval One of the challenges in dealing with changes was getting the buy-in from my team. Some did well with it, but others struggled. I can understand that.eval Change can be hard to accept because you don't know what to expect or because you might not have as much choice as you would like in what happens. I would work with everyone so that they were all on the same page regarding why a change was happening and how we would approach the change. I would also get as much involvement as possible from each person so that they felt like the change just wasn't happening to them, but that they were actively participating in making change, in shaping its final look. I was thinking about how change management applies to the job search. Especially in today's economy, many job seekers (like me) aren't looking for jobs because they chose that path. The change from being employed to being unemployed was put on us suddenly, usually due to a layoff. Managing change on your job search Build Support for Effective Change Management is an interesting article that applies to job seekers as well as managers. Here are some of the main points of the article and how I see them relating to the job search: 1) âProvide as much information as possible, to as many employees as possible, about the business.â In the case of the job seeker, instead of âemployees,â you are providing information to contacts. The more people who know what is happening with you, the more they are able to possibly help you- with a job lead, with proofreading a cover letter, with support, and so on. 2) âCreate an urgency around the need to change.â If you are looking for a job, this is the reality of your situation. If you keep looking back at your old employer and wondering if you could have done anything differently to have avoided the layoff, you will likely be spending a lot of energy on a question that can't be answered completely. Yes, you need to be realistic about the skills you have and the skills you lack, but how that may have played into your current situation doesn't get you a job. Instead, focus on the fact that you need to change your current state of unemployment. I'm not saying to make yourself crazy about it, but use that focus to give you the motivation you need to look forward to the possibilities, which is more productive than looking back at what happened with your former employer. 3) âAlign all organizational systems to support needed changes.â With the job seeker, âorganizational systemsâ are the things in your life that are part of finding your next job. Having a good template for your cover letter, résumé, and thank you letters would be part of this. Another thing that would apply is the preparation for interviewing â" preparing answers for the questions that you may be asked, remembering the stories from your employment that will highlight your skills, researching the company, and doing mock interviews. Having your social media tools in place will also support you in your job search. By that, I mean things like having an updated profile on LinkedIn, Facebook, etc., and cleaning up anything that might look bad (pictures on the Internet that might be embarrassing, tweets that may not be professional). There are many more âorganizational systems,â like having the right clothes for an interview, getting a haircut, etc., but you get the idea. Conclusion Don't just let your job search be something that âhappensâ to you. Maximize your buy-in to the change that is happening in your life and be an active participant in shaping the final product â" your new job. Five Tips to Overcoming Insomnia
Five Tips to Overcoming Insomnia Insomnia is the lack of sleep and this is a problem which affects many people. A key factor among them is a change in lifestyle. Sleeping is very important for the body as it allows the body to rejuvenate itself and allows for full relaxation. Data is showing that three out of 10 adults suffer from insomnia where they are unable to get quality sleep during the night. Here are five tips which you can use in overcoming insomnia. Have a sleep schedule The body needs a regular pattern of when to sleep and itâs very important to set a sleeping schedule. This allows the body to become used to time which you fall asleep, and you will tend to feel sleepy. Going to sleep at different times makes it hard for the body to adjust and get in sync with the time when you should sleep. You need to have a schedule where you sleep and wake at the same time every day of the week. Reduce Caffeine Intake Many people tend to take coffee or tea only a short time before they sleep. They contain caffeine which is a stimulant which reduces the likelihood of sleep. Itâs important to evaluate the amount of caffeine you take a few hours before going to bed. Its advisable to not consume anything with caffeine for at least four to six hours before bedtime. Exercise Regularly Exercising is very important in eliminating insomnia, as it increases the quality of sleep and also increase the duration when one sleeps without interruption. Exercising should be done during the day and itâs not advisable to exercise a few hours before bed time. If you exercise a few hours before sleep, the body will have more adrenaline which can affect sleep. Reduce Stress One of the key hindrances to sleep is stress. The reason for this is that stress causes the mind to be restless and thus makes it hard to get sleep. Stress is a common occurrence for all humans and managing stress is one way of improving the quality of sleep. Reducing stress is not as easy as it sounds but itâs one of the ways that one can ensure to get quality sleep at night. Try meditation or other techniques that help calm the mind and body. Set the Tone And Temp In looking to overcome insomnia you need to set the tone for your bedroom. This includes reducing the light. Research has found that too much light in the bedroom, be it from natural or artificial light, can affect the quality of sleep. One is advised to invest in dark curtains and eliminate light to make the bedroom as sleep friendly as possible. Itâs also important to make sure that the bedroom is as quiet as possible as noise tends to disrupt the quality of sleep. Regulate the temperature of your bedroom so that itâs not too cold or too hot. Click here to learn more on how to overcome insomnia.

5 Traditions to Keep You Together
5 Traditions to Keep You Together Tis the season for traditions and to start some new traditions. I once took the reins of an HR Leader job where my predecessor banned all Christmas trees. She did not believe in Christmas, which is totally cool with me, but pissed off 98% (about 790 people) of our workforce with her beliefs. Every employee engagement survey for the next three years slammed our leadership team for that move. Kinda funny if you think about it. Traditions are the glue that keeps people together. We all have busy lives and are too cool to participate in them, but doing a small thing here or there can make all the difference in strengthening your company culture. Donât be discouraged if you work at a lame place with ego maniacs and corporate climbers. You can start traditions any time, any place and new traditions will make a positive impact on your office regardless of how lame you or they are. Here are 5 ideas to get you thinking: 1) Look around your office What are you already doing? Do people love coffee or tea? Bring some above average coffee to the office and share it OR leave the office for coffee. I used to work for Joe Cranky Pants in Ohio who also ignored the smoking ban in the workplace. His tradition was to take our team to the only smoking restaurant left in Ohio for an annual holiday lunch. After lunch, Joe drank coffee and smoked for an hour. So did we. The coffee part that is. Doesnât sound like much, but he was an A$$ and it meant a lot to him. We liked it too. It was tradition. 2) Do something formal each day Find a quote and share it each day. Take turns and ask other people to do it too. Explain why you chose the quote. In one of my former HR jobs, my senior engineering director did that. It was quick, simple and cool. No matter your mood, it felt nice to read a good quote. He made it a tradition. 3) Do something specific Find a specific place or thing that only your office, circle, department or group does each year. Go to the same restaurant or bar or ice cream shop. Go to a specific spot, that only your crowd goes to. This will make it tradition. In my current life, we go to the same cool Italian place for lunch in St. Louis during the holidays. Hope to do it this year too. Its tradition. 4) And different Use your personal on-line brand or company brand to market your product/service for the holidays. Use social media to target that audience. Tune down the sales pitch. Keep your message festive, light and personal. Send very personalized messages to people who have made a difference in your life or business. Dont sell though. People hate that. I know I do. 5) Massage your talent pool Not a physical massage though. That would be weird. No reallytext, email, call, tweet, ping, send smoke signals, fax or whatever to 10 of your top candidates. Just let them know you are thinking of them, regardless if you have an opening. This will give you a head start for next year. The new year will be here fast and one of your clients will want 7 All Stars hired in 2 weeks. ButBen, I am not a recruiter so this doesnt apply to me. Umm. Yes it does. Turn the table and call people who might have some influence over your career. Just call and say thanks. What are some of your traditions? Are you going to keep some, start some, or kill some? As for Christmas treesask yourself if its worth it before you take down or put up that tree. The effort might not be worth the return Image: Shutterstock

A Resource For Actors
A Resource For ActorsThere are many actors who make good money on the stage and screen but not everyone can call themselves an actor. For most, there is some form of acting that makes their jobs easier. What this means is that if you have the ability to act, your resume will reflect that on it.The best way to become a good actor is by performing on stage or screen. This means that if you perform, you need to be prepared to take the stage and let them know what you can do. The easiest way to start is by creating an actor resume template.Having an actor resume template will help you appear confident in your skills. By preparing your resume in advance, you can create a cover letter that will allow you to show off your abilities. Some of the things you can do to ensure that your resume is complete is to have the content area completed, then put it in the order that you want it to be organized. It is important to remember that there is no one perfect way to write the content that needs to be included on the resume. There are several words that need to be included on the resume. Many times, one word will stand out on your resume. This one word should include everything that is needed on your resume. You want to be sure that when you choose the word to be used, you find out as much as possible about the word to use. Look for how many words the word can carry. This will give you an idea of what that word is going to look like in your resume. Also, you want to find out the grammatical terms of that word, because it may sound different from one situation to another.Another great way to get an actor resume template is to look online. By looking at several resumes, you will get an idea of what they look like and then see if your resume is similar to theirs. You may even find a few differences, but all will look like the same actor resume template you choose. After you have chosen the right actor resume template for you, you can begin to learn how to use it. It is very easy to get carried away and try to incorporate things that you did not plan for. If you do, you will spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to change something.Taking the time to learn how to use the template is a very easy process. In just a few minutes, you can begin to add what you did not expect to put on the resume. With the ability to use it, and knowing how to use it, you can get a resume that impresses anyone you meet.

How Good Is Your Interview Story
How Good Is Your Interview Story When I diagnose problems clients have with their interview strategy, I often notice they answer interview questions too generally. They attempt to convey their fit for the job by describing the personal attributes they think make them relevant for the position. They explain they are team players, ?exible, and good communicators; they claim they are passionate about their work. But rarely do they go much deeper, failing to reveal just how they have leveraged these attributes and skills. In my free ebook, How to Tell a Great Interview Story, I discuss common interview questions and explain how to craft a response that demonstrates your fit and value to an employer. Questions explored include:How do you overcome obstacles to get the job done?Describe your leadership style.Have you ever had a disagreement with a colleague? How do you deal with change? How do you handle projects that lack clear goals?Give me an example of a project where someone dropped the ball. What traits do you look for w hen hiring staff?Download your free ebook at the bottom of our homepage here.
